Over the years, we have used Jeff on several different projects and he has consistently provided us with the expertise in all aspects of fluid sampling, analysis and EOS development to better understand the complex fluid distributions and to accurately characterise them. This has enabled us to successfully construct large compositional simulation models.

On the first project, I was assigned to a giant, saturated, sour gas condensate field. He had previously reviewed the well test and fluid analysis data from two appraisal wells and, together, we had concluded that there were many anomalies in the reported results. We worked with Jeff on a third appraisal well to design, witness and supervise the subsequent fluid sampling and analysis programs on this complex fluid system. The end-result was a very precise data set which enhanced our understanding of the fluid system. Subsequently, he reviewed the historical PVT results from the field and by using his detailed QC procedures we were able to weight the data according to its precision for use in a field wide simulation model. By carefully examining the high-quality data from both the historical wells and the latest appraisal well, we were able to formulate a hypothesis for the main events in the charging history of the field and to fit linear equations to correlate the fluid compositions against H2S. These equations were then used to populate the compositional reservoir simulation grid blocks with the fluid compositions. The resultant simulation model successfully matched the produced fluid composition and the original fluid distribution; it is still being used today.
