Reviews of existing PVT reports often conclude that the reported compositions and PVT properties are not compatible. In addition, there are too many cases where even the reported PVT data is not internally consistent. It is therefore recommended that analytical programs are performed in a step wise manner with QC on the reported data from each stage being performed by experts. As a result, incompatibilities can be identified and corrective actions taken whilst the samples are still being analysed. The QC should be performed using a variety of techniques including material balance calculations, consistency checks and predictions from a detailed EOS. This approach does not add significantly to the turnaround time on the analyses and guarantees a suite of fluid compositions and PVT properties which truly represents the in place fluids.
